From 2002-2004, I reported extensively for two New York Times books about the September 11 attacks.

For “102 Minutes: The Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers,” by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn, I spoke to dozens of survivors and victims’ families to determine minute by minute what happened that day as disaster struck.

My work on “City in the Sky: The Rise and Fall of the World Trade Center,” by James Glanz and Eric Lipton, involved interviewing firefighters, ironworkers, and victims’ families, as well as extensive archival research. In the course of my reporting, I discovered the only ironworker who both constructed and cleaned up the WTC.

I was in New York on September 11, 2001. Two days after the attack, I photographed around Ground Zero. Here are some of the images I took: laurenwolfesept11.tumblr.com
